What to do when you want to start up an amateur (at best!) portfolio.
I got to thinking: What can I do to pull myself up by the bootstraps and get into a field I've been interested in since I was but a mere child?
I'd imagine it is more important for me to save early and often (or better yet, invest early and often). Something I could probably do without much difficulty is to open a personal brokerage account and purchase some stable S&P 500 securities that provide a reasonable and stable dividend - there are even funds that are designed to do this so it normalizes the risks of owning individual securities (I could - in theory - also look into securities that pay monthly dividends so as to ensure that I have a stable ‘income’ for big purchases).
Potentially I could build a rather large investment portfolio over a few years time and be able to retire at any age without needing to ever spend the principle amount (that few years time pending economic conditions, investment vehicles chosen, rates of returns, living expenses, etc, etc, but it is not some remote dream.) That, I think, is just wishful thinking haha.
